Government Entity Toolkit Now Available from IRS

The primary objective of the Federal, State and Local Governments (FSLG) division of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is to ensure compliance with federal employment tax laws by governmental entities through the use of review and examination activities as well as through educational programs.

To that end, they’ve recently compiled a Government Entity Toolkit, full of useful tax information for states and local governments. The Toolkit consists of two parts:

  1. The "Public Employer's Toolkit," which provides information to help government entities and their payroll officers meet their federal employment tax obligations. It includes links to the Public Employer’s Tax Guide and numerous other publications and tax forms that are needed to process payroll and file necessary returns with the IRS.
  2. The "Government Entity Compliance Toolkit," which explains what a government entity can expect during a compliance check or an examination conducted by the IRS.

To access the Toolkit, go to www.irs.gov/govt/fslg/article/0,,id=158481,00.html.
