Revenues for Public Safety (ESSB 6573)

AWC supports the striking amendment by Rep. Mark Ericks (D-Bothell) to ESSB 6573. Please contact your Representatives and encourage their support of the striking amendment to ESSB 6573. The status of the bill remains in doubt and must be approved by 5 pm on Friday, March 7. See the Municipal Finance section.

Gang Task Force Recommendations (E2SHB 2712) - AWC Priority

E2SHB 2712 provides tools and funding for local law enforcement and communities to address gang violence and provide intervention. An amendment to strip out the civil injunction that may be sought against a gang has been submitted for floor consideration by the Senate. It is expected to be adopted before the cutoff and passed to the House for concurrence. See the Law & Justice section.

Wrongful Death Causes of Action (E3SHB 1873)

This harmful legislation was heard in the Senate Ways & Means Committee on March 3rd and passed out with an amendment excluding joint and several liability for the state and political subdivisions for the new damages and claimants. The bill was further amended on the Senate floor with exactly 25 votes to adopt a technical correction to the joint and several language and to add in an age limit of 26.
