From the Director: Pace Quickens As Deadline Approaches

By Stan Finkelstein, AWC Executive Director

Bills must be approved by their house of origin by 5 pm on Wednesday, March 14 or they will be considered dead for the session.

Bills necessary to implement the budget are exempt from this and other deadlines.

Night and weekend work has increased as legislators try to move bills from the House to the Senate and vice versa. Many city priorities have already been approved by the house of origin, including the Streamlined Sales Tax legislation, SSB 5089, which passed the Senate and awaits action by the full House. A number of other bills await action by either the Senate or the House and most of them must move by Wednesday.

Please take a few minutes after you review this Bulletin to make a phone call or two to your legislators. We have outlined a number of bills that need action right away. Contact from home is often the difference – helping to move a good bill forward or stopping harmful legislation. Please contact your legislators now seeking their support!

Thanks in advance for your help.
