Liquor rules

New alcohol advertising rules take effect this weekend

On Saturday, April 3, new and revised alcohol advertising regulations go into effect. Among other things, the rules limit alcohol advertisements at public and civic events and prohibit outdoor liquor advertisements within 500 feet of schools, churches, public playgrounds, or athletic fields primarily used by minors. Proposed rules for liquor licenses

The Washington State Liquor Control Board is seeking comments on proposed rules for WAC 314-07 How to Apply for a Liquor License. The proposed rules include the following:

  • Changes the definition of a "financier" of a licensed business.
  • Changes the parties that must qualify for a liquor license.
  • Provides a list of reasons for denial or cancellation of a temporary license.
  • Eliminates some of the information required when a local authority or the general public objects to a liquor license.
  • Modifies the requirements for when the liquor board must approve ownership changes of a licensed business.

Please see the liquor board’s notice to stakeholders and the proposed rules for more information and how to comment on the proposed rules.
