AWC leadership meets with Governor

During Governor Chris Gregoire’s address at our City Legislative Action Conference in February, she extended an invitation to meet with city leadership about ways the state and cities can enhance their partnership. As a follow-up, AWC Board President Karen Rogers; Vice President Glenn Johnson; Mike McCarty, Acting Executive Director and Jim Justin, Director of State and Federal Relations, met with the Governor on Thursday, March 12.

The meeting was a productive 45 minutes where we were able to outline the needs of cities in this time of severe economic downturn. The Governor understands the plight of cities and was responsive to our desires to secure more flexibility in how we allocate local resources. She also expressed her intention to continue the dialogue with cities as she works to address the $8 billion plus budget deficit the state is facing.

We are grateful for the Governor’s time and the positive conversation that occurred. We look forward to additional discussions on how cities and the state can enhance our partnership.
