AWC’s 2006-07 Legislative Committee Holds First Meeting
The first meeting of AWC’s 2006-07 Legislative Committee was held on Tuesday, August 15. AWC President Mark Foutch, Mayor of Olympia, chairs the Committee, which includes 53 elected and appointed city officials from throughout the state. This year, the AWC Board decided to broaden participation on the Legislative Committee to include more appointed officials with relevant subject matter expertise. The Legislative Committee’s role is to recommend specific legislative proposals for the 2007 legislative session, within the framework of the Resolutions adopted by the membership in June of this year. The bulk of the work of the Legislative Committee will be done within subcommittees that correspond to the adopted AWC Resolutions. The subcommittees will meet over the next couple of months to review various legislative proposals. Click here for the list of subcommittees, the members of each subcommittee, and the AWC staff contacts. Proposals RequestedTo assist with their work, the Legislative Committee is soliciting ideas from city officials. If you have a specific proposal you would like the Legislative Committee to consider, please share your ideas with AWC’s legislative staff as soon as possible. Your legislative proposal should be concise and provide the following information:
Send your proposal to the appropriate AWC lobbyist – their names and e-mail addresses are listed below the names of the subcommittees. You can also send your proposal to Deanna Krell at deannak@awcnet.org. Each subcommittee will provide a brief outline of its preliminary top issues to the AWC Board for their review and discussion at their October 6 Board meeting. These issues will also help frame the agenda for the upcoming AWC Regional Meetings. The full Legislative Committee will meet on November 17, review the work of the subcommittees, and prioritize the proposals for AWC Board consideration. The AWC Board will review those recommendations and finalize the 2007 AWC Legislative Priorities during their meeting on December 1. Thank you in advance for your contribution to AWC’s policy development process. If you have any questions, please contact Jim Justin at 360-753-4137 or jimj@awcnet.org.
