AWC’s Position on Property Rights

A quick note of thanks to Carlson, McMahon & Sealby, PLLC, for sponsoring the Property Rights breakfast on Friday, June 23. The presentations resulted in a lively debate on property rights and the role of local governments. A number of references were made during the breakfast regarding AWC’s position on the broader issue and specifically on Initiative 933 (I-933). The AWC Board reviewed and discussed this issue initially in December of 2005 prior to the filing of I-933. At that time the Board noted AWC will continue to defend local governments land use authorities and oppose measures that hinder local governments’ ability to work with their citizens and adopt local land use policies. This position is outlined in AWC’s Land Use and Environmental Stewardship Resolution. The Board has not taken a specific position on I-933.
