Challenge America: Reaching Every Community Grants, National Endowment for the Arts

Applications Due:  June 1, 2006

The Challenge America grants supports projects that reach the arts to underserved populations, such as those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability. Applications may include:

  • An arts event that will feature one or more guest artists;
  • Professionally directed public art projects such as murals, sculptures, or environmental art that are developed through community engagement;
  • Civic design activities; and 
  • Projects which address cultural tourism or revitalization or improvement of cultural districts.

Farmers Market Promotion Program, U.S. Department of Agriculture

Applications Due:  May 1, 2006

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced the availability of $1 million in grant funds for Farmers Market Promotion.  Proposals may involve innovative approaches to market operations and management, improving access to relevant marketing and financial information, and consumer based education.

HOPE VI Main Street Grants, U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development

Applications Due:  July 10, 2006

The Department of Housing & Urban Development recently announced $5 million in Main Street Grants.  The purpose of the Main Street program is to provide grants to small communities to assist in the rehabilitation and new construction of affordable housing in conjunction with an existing program to revitalize an historic or traditional central business district or Main Street area.

North American Wetlands Conservation Act US Standard, U.S. Department of the Interior

Applications Due:  July 28, 2006

The U.S. Department of Interior has announced $1 million in grant funds to support the North American Wetlands Conservation Act.  Grant funds are designed to promote long-term conservation of North American wetland ecosystems, and the waterfowl and other migratory birds, fish and wildlife that depend upon such habitat.  Conservation actions include acquisition, establishment, enhancement and restoration of wetlands and wetland-associated uplands.

Prevention of Methamphetamine Abuse, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services

Applications Due:  May 16, 2006

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Prevention is accepting applications to support the expansion of methamphetamine prevention interventions and/or infrastructure development.  The goal is to intervene effectively to prevent, reduce or delay the use and/or spread of methamphetamine abuse.

FM Global Arson Fund Grants

Applications Due:  Ongoing

FM Global is committed to reducing and preventing arson.  The grant program aims to prevent arson by providing seed money to fire service organizations and related agencies.  Grants have been awarded to fire departments and related agencies for investigative tools, flammable accelerant detectors, training programs, juvenile fire setter programs, etc. Applications are accepted throughout the year.

Alternative Transportation in the Parks & Public Lands, U.S. Department of Transportation

Applications Due:  May 5, 2006

The U.S. Department of Transportation recently announced over $21 million in Alternative Transportation in Parks & Public Lands Program grant funds.  The purpose of the program is to enhance the protection of the national parks and Federal lands, and increase the enjoyment of those visiting them.  The program funds capital and planning expenses for alternative transportation systems in parks and public lands.

Energy Freedom Loan Program, WA Department of Agriculture

Notice of Intent to Apply:  May 12, 2006

The Washington State Legislature is dedicated to the rapid adoption and use of bio-energy, to develop a viable bio-energy industry within Washington state and to promote the development in bio-energy sources and markets, and to support a viable agriculture industry to grow bio-energy crops. To accomplish this, the energy freedom loan program was established (SHB 2939) to stimulate the construction of facilities in Washington to generate energy from farm sources or convert organic matter into fuels.
