Civic Ventures, Introducing the Purpose Prize
Applications Due: February 28, 2006
Beginning in 2006, Civic Ventures will award up to $100,000 to exceptional individuals who are defying expectations channeling their creativity and talent to address critical social problems at the local, regional or national level. The winners will be change-makers from non-profit, profit or government organizations who have launched this work after their 50th birthday and who have proven approaches to tackling the hardest challenges of our time – homelessness, social justice and human rights, violence, poverty, hunger, health, education, and the environment.

Tony Hawk Foundation, Helping Fund Public Skateparks Nationwide
Applications Due: March 1, 2006 and October 1, 2006
The primary mission of the Tony Hawk Foundation is to promote high-quality, public skateparks in low-income areas throughout the United States. The Foundation primarily considers skatepark projects that are in low-income areas, and/or areas with a high population of "at-risk" youth. Applicants must demonstrate a grassroots commitment to the project, particularly in the form of fund-raising by local skateboarders and other community youth groups. Requests for skateparks should only be made for areas that currently have no skateboarding facilities. Grants can range between $1,000 to $25,000.

U.S. National Endowment for the Humanities, Challenge Grants
Applications Due: May 1, 2006
The National Endowment for the Humanities has announced the availability of $1 million in grant funds to help secure long-term improvements in and support for humanities programs and resources. Awards can be made to museums, public libraries, historical societies and historic sites as well as a host of other entities. Challenge Grant funds are not designed to replace funds already being expended on the humanities, but instead should reflect careful strategic planning to strengthen and enhance activities in and commitment to the humanities.

ENVIRONMENT
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Region 10, Indoor Air Quality Grants
Applications Due: March 24, 2006
EPA Region 10 (Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington) is soliciting Initial Proposals from organizations to fund indoor air quality (IAQ) projects that address any of the five grant program priority areas: implementation of EPA’s IAQ Tools for Schools program; indoor asthma trigger education and exposure reduction; environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) education and exposure reduction; general IAQ training, education, and outreach; and multi-priority IAQ projects (i.e., projects that address more than one of these priority areas).

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Coastal Program – Partnering for Coastal Conversation
Applications Due: Contact Coastal Program Coordinators
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced the availability of $13 million in FY2006 grant funds for the Coastal Program. The purpose of the Coastal Program is to conserve fish and wildlife and their habitats to support healthy coastal ecosystems. The program is guided by four-goals: Serve coastal communities by providing assessment and planning tools to identify priority habitats; Conserve pristine coastal habits through locally-initiated conservation efforts; Restore degraded coastal wetland, upland, and stream habitats; Focus resources through conservation alliances.

U.S. Dept of Justice, National Institute of Justice (NIJ), FY06 Evaluation of Technologies
Applications Due: March 7, 2006
The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) has announced notice of their FY06 Evaluation of Technologies grants designed to increase the effectiveness of State and local law enforcement, corrections, and other criminal justice agencies. NIJ is interested in evaluations that measure how technologies improve criminal justice policy and practices and whose outcome focuses on crime reduction. Additional outcomes may be considered in a variety of areas.

Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ), Community Juvenile Justice Coordination Grant
Applications Due: April 7, 2006
The Governor's Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee is pleased to announce the release of a Request for Qualifications and Quotations (RFQQ) for "Community Juvenile Justice Coordination" (CJJC) services. The GJJAC is seeking proposals from County-wide or multi-County organizations to facilitate community-based juvenile justice coordination efforts. The CJJC replaces the currently funded "Regional Program Development Unit" service.

U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services, Recovery Community Services Program (RCSP)
Applications Due: April 4, 2006
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced the availability of $2.5 million in grant funds for the Recovery Community Services Program (RCSP). The grants are designed to deliver and evaluate peer-to-peer recovery support services that help prevent relapse and promote sustained recovery from alcohol and drug use disorders. Successful applicants will provide peer to peer recovery support services that are responsive to community needs and strengths.
