U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ) Mental Health Courts Assistance Program

The Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is issuing a call for concept papers from state, local, or tribal governments, including courts to fund one additional mental heath court demonstration project that reflects innovative and collaborative efforts for system-wide improvements for offenders with mental disabilities or illnesses. The Mental Health Court Program helps improve the social functioning of qualified offenders with mental illness, mental retardation, or co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders through treatment, supervision, stable employment, housing, and support services.

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Stamp Program Outreach Grant
Letter of Intent: January 6, 2006 (optional) Applications Due: April 3, 2006
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced the availability of $1 million in grant funds to state and local government agencies and non-profit organizations to improve access to and awareness of the Federal Food Stamp Program for low-income families. Recipients could receive up to $75,000 to construct projects aimed at simplifying the food stamp application and eligibility requirements for families in their community. Grantees may also implement community-based outreach strategies that educate people about the benefits of food stamps and increases participation in the program.

Governor's Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, Deinstitutionalization of Status Offenders Request for Proposal
Applications Due: February 24, 2006
The Governor’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee (GJJAC) is requesting proposals for the Title II Formula Grants Program. The focus area for this RFP is Deinstitutionalization of Status Offenders (DSO). DSO refers to the practice of eliminating or preventing the placement of status offenders and non-offender youth in secure facilities. Only proposals that address DSO will be considered for funding. Specific interest areas include services focusing on runaways, at-risk-youth, children in need of services, truants, school suspension and expulsion, and school drop-out. Gender specific services for girls are encouraged. The GJJAC expects to fund three or four projects. Projects may apply for up to $100,000.
