Demonstration and Evaluation of Speed Management on Main Roads in Rural Communities Grants

The objective of these demonstration and evaluation projects is to determine the extent to which gateways lead to lower speeds and improved safety on main roads in rural communities. This cooperative agreement program requires each recipient to conduct a carefully planned demonstration and evaluation of implementing a gateway for speed management. The recipient will designate a specific demonstration community (or group of communities).
A demonstration community is the geopolitical area where the speed management demonstration will take place. This could be a State, a county, a city, a township, a borough, or any defined geographic entity or group of geographic entities within the United States with a clear governing body.

Individual award amounts are expected to range between $50,000 - $100,000. The applicant’s 20% match requirement can be met through direct financial contribution or through “in-kind” services.
